Summary

In the plenary sittings held on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September 2024, Parliament paid tribute to Rebecca Cheptegei, a long-distance athlete and Uganda People’s Defence Force Sergeant who died after suffering severe burns following an arson attack. The Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs recommended the fast-tracking of the joint border demarcation with South Sudan, to address security challenges in Karamoja. Parliament implored government to find lasting solutions to recurrent disasters, citing River Nyamwamba in Kasese District which is said to flood at least three times a year.
