Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda has refuted media reports that he is promoting a campaign aimed at using curvy women as a tourist attraction. In his statement during a plenary sitting on Wednesday, 13 February 2019, Kiwanda said that his participation at the launch of the contest was to support a beauty standard which in line with the country’s native cultural preferences and rather not using curvy women as tourist attractions. On Tuesday, 12 February 2019, Members of Parliament raised concern on statements made by the State Minister for Tourism Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda, suggesting that curvaceous Ugandan women could be used to promote tourism in Uganda. Hon. Pamela Nasiyo, the Chairperson of Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) said that the move intended to objectify women in Uganda. Watch the video for the full response.
