Summary

In the plenary sittings held on Wednesday 03 and Thursday 04 September 2025, Parliament amended the Building Control (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Cap. 136, making provisions for stiffer penalties for illegal construction and reforms to streamline building approval processes. The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi demanded an explanation from government on reports that criminals deported from the United States were to come to Uganda, in a pact between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US State Department. Parliament passed the Valuation Bill, 2024, following the adoption of the Committee on Physical Infrastructure’s report, which introduced sweeping reforms aimed at closing loopholes and professionalizing Uganda’s valuation sector.
